Intelligent charging booster for all 12 V vehicle and solar batteries

The IVT Charging Booster is used to charge lead-acid, lead-gel, AGM and lithium second batteries while driving in vehicles with 12 V systems.

The versatile charge booster has two charging stages

  • In 30 A mode, the device can be used to recharge the second battery with up to 30 A.
  • In 10 A caravan mode, the charge booster enables batteries in a caravan or trailer to be recharged via the plug coupling. In this mode, the charging current is limited to a maximum of 10 A.

The intelligent IVT Charging Booster is a clocked up/down converter that compensates for the fluctuating alternator voltage. As soon as an alternator signal (D+) is applied to the charging booster, it automatically goes into operation. The connected second battery is charged independently of the alternator voltage. Switching to charge retention is current-dependent and automatic.
Note: Additional consumers should only be connected to the second battery.

The main advantages of an IUoU charging booster

  • By using a charging booster, powerful consumers can be operated on the second battery even when the engine is running.
  • Safe starting, even after longer idle times (without charging), remains guaranteed.
  • The service life of both batteries (starter battery and on-board battery) is considerably extended by an optimally charged and maintained second battery.
  • When the nominal capacity is reached, the booster switches to trickle charge mode.
  • Different types of batteries can be charged with the help of the charging booster
  • The IVT Charging Booster can also be used in solar island systems with separate 12 V systems.

Important characteristics and features

Features & Functions

Charging booster – mandatory in Euro 6 vehicles

+
Suitable for Euro 6 vehicles

Alternators with energy-saving charging strategies are often installed in Euro 6 vehicles. These alternators are subject to very strong fluctuations of the charging voltage depending on the driving condition (e.g. in the Mercedes Benz Sprinter between 12.6 V and 15.0 V).

Without a charging booster, this prevents optimum charging of the leisure/second battery. With a fully charged battery (e.g. via the 230 V mains) there is even a risk of discharge.

Due to these circumstances, the use of a charging booster is absolutely necessary in EURO 6 vehicles.

Suitable for 12 V solar systems

+
The IVT Charging Booster can also be used in stand-alone solar systems with separate 12 V systems. For this purpose, the D+ signal must be routed to the device via a switch.

E-certification: Suitable for permanent installation in vehicles

+
E-1

The IVT Charging Booster meets the legal requirements of the ECE regulations and therefore has the E-certification. It is suitable for permanent installation in all vehicles with road approval, such as passenger cars, utility vehicles or other vehicles with an on-board voltage of 12 V.

Suitable for batteries with a capacity from 35 Ah

+
The electronic is suitable for all 12 V batteries from a capacity of 35 Ah (lead-acid, lead-gel, AGM and lithium).

The charging current is limited to max. 30 A in regular mode by the charging booster (constant current charging IUoU). This prevents overloading of the cut-off relay and the cable harness due to high equalising currents.

Extensive protection functions integrated

+
The IVT Charging Booster is equipped with the following protection functions as standard:

  • Deep discharge protection for starter battery
  • Temperature management/overtemperature protection
  • Short circuit protection at output
  • Overvoltage protection for input and output

Selection of charging mode and battery type

Fig. DIP switch on the back of the charge booster

The selection of the battery type is made using DIP switches 1 and 2.
The 30 A or 10 A charging mode is set using DIP switch 3.
The corresponding configuration can be found in the manual (see Downloads).

Power- and temperature-controlled fan

+
Power- and temperature-controlled fan

The power- and temperature-controlled fan minimizes the noise generated by the charging booster, by only switching it on when required.

Compact and robust design – small dimensions

+
Compact and robust design
Thanks to the selected components, the charging booster has compact dimensions. The high-quality inner workings are protected by a sturdy metal casing.

Note on mounting
The device is suitable for wall and floor mounting. The installation position can be selected as desired. In order to keep charging losses as low as possible, the IVT Charging Booster should be mounted close to the second battery to be charged.
